Club Career
Goodson, another product of the University of Maryland soccer program, bypassed his senior season with the Terrapins to enter the 2004 MLS SuperDraft.
The then-Dallas Burn drafted the defender seventh overall but saw limited MLS playing time in his first season with the Burn. Goodson's second season proved to be more fruitful as he became a mainstay for the recently renamed FC Dallas.
The native Virginian would stay with the club another two years until being selected in the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes. It was at that time that Goodson decided to spurn the MLS and signed a contract with Norwegian club IK Start in January 2008. He went on to appear in 22 matches during the 2008 season for Start and scored five goals.
Goodson's gamble in signing with a second-level Norwegian club paid off when Start was promoted after his first season. In 2009, he established himself as one of the Eliteserien's best defenders.
International Career
Goodson earned his first cap for the United States National Team in a January 2008 friendly versus Sweden.
He was named to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup team that reached the final, scoring his first international goal against Honduras in the semifinal. Goodson was chosen for the final 23 man World Cup roster, but he did not see any action in South Africa.
