CAREER HISTORY
Club Career

Bobby Convey burst onto the scene as a 16-year old in 2000, when he was selected by DC United as the final pick of the first round of the MLS Super Draft (12th overall). He was then enrolled in the Project-40 program, where his stay would be surprisingly short, after impressing with the team during training as he made his debut as the youngest player in league history at the time during a 4-0 home defeat to the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Bobby would prove to be a valuable addition to a struggling DC United franchise, becoming a regular in the midfield and playing in 22 games his rookie season while picking up a pair of assists.

Convey's impressive play at both the club and international levels led to attention from several clubs in Europe. He looked set to move to the English Premiership in summer 2003 when London-based Tottenham Hotspur agreed a $3 million move with MLS, but the transfer stalled when his work permit application was denied due to his lack of appearances with the senior national team.

Despite the setback, Bobby continued his hard work, and the attention from Europe didn't die down. Spurs tried again to acquire him in 2004 by sending him on loan to Reading, but in the end, allowed the Royals to sign him exclusively. Convey ended his five-year stay in MLS, tallying 89 games played, 8 goals and 16 assists for DC United.

Convey made his debut for his new club in a 1-0 loss in London to West Ham United, coming on as a substitute. He made his first start a few days later during a 1-0 Reading victory over Sheffield United on August 14, 2004.

He was frustrated during his first season at the Madejski, making only seven starts and 15 substitute appearances, but 2005/06 was a different story when Convey became an ever-present on the left side of midfield.

By March, the Yank was the highest-rated player in the Championship, according to ACTIM, and in early April, Reading secured promotion to the Premiership by winning Coca-Cola Championship title, setting a new English record of 106 points in 46 games. For the season, Convey tallied seven goals and nine assists.

International Career

Convey began his career for the US National Team at the Under-17 level, where he would star as the youngest US team member at the 1999 U-17-World Championships in New Zealand. A year later, Convey made his debut for the senior national team on October 25, 2000 against Mexico.

Despite his caps for the senior team, Convey became a focal point for the U-20's, leading them to a heart-breaking quarterfinal defeat to Argentina in the World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates in 2003.

Next up was the 2004 Athens Olympic Qualifying campaign, where his U-23 team would ultimately fail at the final hurdle to Mexico, meaning the US team would miss out on the Olympic soccer tournament.

Back on the senior level, Convey had a busy 2003, playing a big role in both the Confederations Cup in France and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he scored his first goal against Costa Rica on July 26th.

Convey notched two assists in seven World Cup 2006 qualifiers and put on impressive displays for the US in friendlies against Poland and Germany.

During World Cup 2006, Convey started two of the US' three matches, as they were eliminated from the tournament with one point from the group stages.
