PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
Woody Baum - Thursday, July 29, 2010
Pachuca's trio of Jose Francisco Torres, Herculez Gomez and Marco Vidal visit reigning champion Toluca, while Sammy Ochoa will look to make his case for more minutes with Estudiantes.

Cruz Azul – Atlante

Atlante look to recover from their embarrassing week one loss to Santos, when they visit Cruz Azul in Mexico City on Saturday.

It will be a difficult task for the Cancun team, as Cruz Azul has looked dangerous this season with their victories against Estudiantes and in the Concacaf Champions League match on Wednesday.

Recent Atlante acquisition Sonny Guadarrama will look to get back onto the field after starting last week, although his starting spot looks to be in danger.

Guadarrama was pulled from the match in the 34th minute on Saturday and last year's league leading goal scorer Johan Fano will be eligible to play after being suspended last week.

Atlante will have to contend with the potent Cruz Azul attack led by Emmanuel Villa who seems to have recovered his scoring touch this season.

Both teams will have their entire squads available.

Estudiantes – Monterrey

Estudiantes will have the unenviable job of following up a difficult home loss with a visit to Monterrey on Saturday.

Monterrey, in recent history has been almost unbeatable at home, and will be looking for three points after tying San Luis last week.

Former youth national team player, Sammy Ochoa will look to play again after playing most of the second half in last week's loss.

Fortunately for Estudiantes, Monterrey will be without striker Aldo De Negris.

Estudiantes will have their entire roster available.

Toluca – Pachuca

Pachuca, after their dominating performance against America last Saturday, will have another opportunity to challenge themselves, when they face reigning champion Toluca in the Estadio Nemesio Diez on Sunday.

Jose Francisco Torres is projected to start on Sunday after starting and playing 90 minutes last week, and his responsibilities may be increased as Pachuca's midfield playmaker, Daniel Manso will be suspended for having been ejected last week.

Herculez Gomez looks to have established himself as a first option substitute and will look to see the field again, where Pachuca could use some of the goal scoring prowess that he demonstrated last season with Puebla.

Marco Vidal, who has yet to appear this season despite playing significant minutes in the Superliga, will hope for his chance to make his league debut on Sunday.

Puebla – San Luis

Edgar Castillo and San Luis will look to pick up points on the road as they visit Puebla on Sunday after tying Monterrey at home last week.

Castillo, on loan from America, has yet to make an impression with new head coach, Ignacio Ambriz, as he came on as a second half sub last week.

He is not projected to start but will mostly likely come on as a substitute, where his offensive spark from the left back position will be needed.

San Luis will be facing a Puebla team that, while not known as being a strong team, is always difficult to play against at home.

Both teams will have their entire rosters available.
