PREVIEW: WEEKEND IRISH ACTION
Gareth Maher - Thursday, March 18, 2010
Ryan Guy goes into third game of the Airtricity League season with St Patrick's Athletic hoping to extend an impressive winning streak, while Chris Konopka aims to record another shut-out with Waterford United in the First Division.

St. Patrick's Athletic - UCD

Following a surprise win over Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers, confidence is high in the St Pat's squad ahead of the visit of newly-promoted UCD.

Saints boss Pete Mahon spent six years as manager of the Students, but he won't be showing his former team showing favours as the Inchicore club look to stay on top of the Premier Division table.

Brian Cash is suspended, but defender Noel Haverty is finally fit again following a hamstring injury. However, Mahon is expected to stick with the same team that beat Rovers earlier in the week.

If the Saints are unchanged then Guy could again be asked to occupy the left side of midfield as David McAllister impressed in his usual right wing role.

For UCD, they are missing key midfielder Greg Bolger through suspension, while Robbie Creevy and Paul Corry are rated as doubtful for Martin Russell's young group of players.

Waterford United - Derry City

It has been a case of 'so far, so good' for the Blues after collecting two wins from two to storm to the top of the First Division table, but they face their toughest test of the season in this game.

Derry were thrown out of the league last season when it was discovered that they were operating a dual contract system.

However, since then they have regrouped and strengthened considerably over the off-season to emerge as one of the favorites to clinch automatic promotion.

Waterford will want to focus on what they have done well so far this season rather than the threat that their opponents pose, so coach Stephen Henderson will simply ask his players for more of the same.

He does have some selection issues with Seamus Long forced to serve a one-match ban, while Kevin Murray and Paul McCarthy will have to undergo late fitness tests.

Konopka should keep his place between the posts as he continues to register solid displays for his new club and prove that he is worthy of hanging onto the number one spot.
