Ryan Miller and Michael Thomas look to make their Halmstads debut while Alejandro Bedoya and Örebro are back at it
as the Allsvenskan kicks off early this year in order to accommodate the break that will be taken for June's World Cup.
Halmstads BK - Trelleborgs FF
Halmstad will be in action on Sunday with a pair of Notre Dame products they signed in the offseason.
Ryan Miller showcased his talent with Ljungskille in the Superettan last season and is the likely to start at right back. Michael Thomas displayed his skills in a winter tryout and was a late addition to the squad.
Thomas, fresh out of college and the PDL was the 18th pick in the MLS draft but spurned the San Jose Earthquakes for the chance to rejoin Miller. Thomas has come on as a sub in recent training matches and looks to make the bench for the opener.
Halmstad finished one spot clear of relegation playoffs last season, while Trelleborgs was ninth placed.
Trelleborg may be missing captain Dennis Melander, who is battling a right knee injury.
Örebro SK - Åtvidabergs FF
Alejandro Bedoya returns to club action on Monday as Örebro host recently promoted Åtvidabergs.
After breaking into the starting lineup in his first pro season, Bedoya will be counted on a midfield this season as ÖSK looks to improve on last years 6th place finish.
Reports from Örebro say that he has showed a lot more confidence after spending January training with US National Team and performing well in the recent friendly against the Netherlands.
Åtvidabergs has served as a farm team for Stockholm's Djurgårdens IF for years. Last season Djurgårdens narrowly avoided relegation. The club, founded in 1907 plays in a small town and hasn't been in the top flight for 28 years.

American Johann Smith could very well make his debut with Kalmar should the Allsvenskan club extend Smith an offer prior to this weekend's match versus IFK Gothenburg.
UPDATE:
Friday March 12
Johann Smith will not likely be playing for Kalmar this weekend. Smith slipped on a patch of ice, ran into a bench and will have an x-ray to see if any bones were broken.
Smith was trying out at the time of the injury and no contract offer had yet been announced. |
