RECAP: MIDWEEK ENGLISH ACTION
Andrew Vorce - Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Jay DeMerit was the only Yank in action in English midweek action, as the American had two chances to bring Watford back into the game but Swansea played out a classic defensive victory to win away from home.

Watford 0 - 1 Swansea

Jay DeMerit had two chances to bring Watford back into the game but Swansea played out a classic defensive victory to win away from home.

Shefki Kuqi was one of Swansea's most highly rated players on the day, having chance after chance with Watford keeper Scott Loach being equal to almost everything.

Kuqi hit a post early in the game, but his diving header in the 18th squared away all three points for the away team. Darren Pratley picked out Craig Beattie in space, and Beattie's early ball in found the diving Kuqi for the game winning goal.

DeMerit had a header cleared off the line before a long throw met the American's head only to fly over the crossbar. Henri Lansbury and Heidar Helguson were booked for Watford while Leon Britton was booked for swansea. Up next for the Hornets is a home test Peterborough on Saturday.

Notes:

Stuart Holden was sorely missed as Bolton fell 4-0 at Stadium of Light to Sunderland via a Darren Bent hat trick.

Frank Simek was left on the bench when Sheffield Wednesday fell 1-0 at West Brom.

Devann Yao did not dress for Ipswich Town who won 2-0 at home to Cardiff City.

Kenny Cooper stayed on the bench as his Plymouth fell 2-0 at Queens Park Rangers.

Mike Grella struggled with an injury which kept him out of Leeds 4-1 trouncing of Tranmere
