PREVIEW: SKODA XANTHI - ARIS SALONIKI
Christopher Anderson - Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Aris look to seek revenge on Xanthi and earn a Greek Cup semifinal berth, with Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu likely to feature in the squad.

The Greek Cup quarterfinals finish up Wednesday night with a rematch from ten days ago, when Aris FC traveled to Skoda Xanthi Arena and fell 2-1.

American players Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu will hope for a repeat of their memorable performance, when the two connected on the lone goal for Aris. The former can expect to feature up top as a starter, and the latter might make his first start in the black and gold given the absence of Toni Calvo due to injury.

Aris head coach Hector Cuper will welcome the return of preferred keeper Michelis Sifakis from suspension, sorely missed in Aris' 2-0 loss to Panthrakikos last weekend, as well as Brazilian centerback Ronaldo Guirano. The Argentine skipper will still have to do without the recovering Mehdi Nafti, Ian Daly and Dario Fernandez.

Skoda Xanthi are looking to rebound from their 3-1 defeat to AEK Athens on Saturday, in which Romanian Mugurel Buga opened the scoring before his teammates allowed a trio.

Wednesday's action will determine the other face-off in the Greek Cup semifinals. PAS Giannina and Panathinaikos have already booked a spot into the semifinals, with Kavala and Panionios also duking it out Wednesday night for the fourth spot.

In other team news, the Black and Golds have announced the signing of Camel Meriem on a one-and-a-half-year contract, but the Frenchman will not be available until this weekend when Ergotelis come to town. The former Sochaux, Girondins de Bordeaux, and Olympique de Marseille man also spent four years at AS Monaco, witnessing Adu's short stint at the club.
