PREVIEW: ARIS THESSALONIKI – PANTHRAKIKOS
Christopher Anderson - Thursday, February 4, 2010
Aris' American duo of Eddie Johnson and Freddy and Adu look to get more playing time at home on Saturday against the Super League's weakest team in Panthrakikos.

Both Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu can expect another nod from coach Hector Raul Cuper following their connection on the club's only goal last weekend. In spite of the 2-1 loss at Skoda Xanthi, Johnson picked up his first goal and Adu his first assist since arriving on loan in January.

The kickoff at 16:45 local time will take place in empty Kleanthis Vikelidis stadium due a crowd ban following a pitch invasion two weeks ago at PAS Giannina.

Panthrakikos sit in the cellar of the Super League with six points, half of which were picked up last weekend when they eked out a 3-2 win over Ergotelis, Clint Mathis' former club.

In that match, Serbian substitute Filip Arsenijevic authored the game-winner with a splendid dash through the Ergotelis defense and a an untouchable shot for the win.

Following his fourth yellow card of the season last week, Aris' go-to goalie Michalis Sifakis will be missing, leaving the posts open for Slovakian Michal Peškovič. Tunisian Mehdi Nafti and Ronaldo Guiaro return from a yellow card suspension and could feature in Cuper's starting eleven. Dario Fernandez and Ian Daly still remain on the road to full recovery.

With the midweek departure of Argentinian Pitu Garcia of Iraklis Thessaloniki, Aris added Atletico Madrid defender César Ortiz to their fold on a six-month loan.

In their last Super League meeting last October, the two exchanged goals signed by Pathrakikos' Portuguese midfielder João Fajardo and Flavio, who is no longer with Aris.

Nice work YA staff on learning about yet another league where Americans are playing. Let's hope both get the start, look good and continue to get playing time.
