AGBOSSOUMONDE OFF TO PORTUGUESE LEADERS
Brian Sciaretta - Thursday, January 7, 2010
Portuguese leaders Sporting Braga have completed a six-month loan agreement for American Under-20 central Gale Agbossoumonde.

Agbossoumonde, 18, began training with Braga on December 28th and the stint has culminated with the Portuguese now holding an option to buy at the end of the season.

"We at Traffic are extremely happy because the idea is very clear for us," Traffic Sports director Fernando Clavijo told YA. "We are trying to give American players the next step forward to develop and to help our national team compete at the highest level. "

"We spoke with Braga this morning and they were very pleased with his progress and potential. All the evaluation from the coaches and the staff who were at the game rate him very highly."

The initial plan is for Agbossoumonde to play with Braga's youth team but first team appearances are possible this year claimed the former US international.

"Right now he's playing with the junior team," Clavijo said. "We've heard that he will be training with the first team soon. Everyone was surprised with him - first of all because of his [young age] and his size but also with the quality of his play. It was good news for us altogether."

Agbossoumode started every game for the USA last year at the 2009 U20 World Cup and is also eligible for the 2011 Under-20 World Cup.

Braga are currently tied for first place in the Portuguese league with Benfica.

Excellent. It is great to see more and more of our young talent making their mark at top notch European leagues. If we can't make the league in the U.S. great, lets be great in the top leagues abroad.
