Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu saw action in a game setting for the first time in six months during a closed-doors match on Monday versus Partrick Thistle.
Edu played the first 80 minutes with the Rangers reserve squad against the Scottish First Division club at their home grounds of Murray Park in Glasgow. The match ended in favor of the hosts by a score of 2-1 with Steve Lennon scoring the lone goal for the Light Blues.
What will be good news for Rangers and US national team fans is that the Fontana, California native said that he felt no trepidation while playing on the repaired knee and does not foresee any ill effects from Monday's encounter.
"It felt good to play finally," Edu told YA following the match. "I felt like I was moving around well so good signs so far."
The positive report will certainly be noted by Rangers head coach Walter Smith who has publicaly stated that once Edu has shown that his fitness level can meet the demands of playing a match, then the former Toronto FC man will quickly be called into action for the first team.
Edu will hope to make his season debut this weekend when he and fellow American DaMarcus Beasley travel with Rangers on Sunday to take on Hibernian in Edinburgh. |

wishing Edu well in his season debut! I too would love to see him regain national team form. If he could somehow make this W.C. squad and contribute, it would be tremendous experience, as it would seem like he'd have potential for a couple more World Cups being that he's so young and talented. Here's hoping he could anchor that defensive midfield for years to come.
It would be nice though, if Jermaine Jones could fill that role this summer. he's definately a baller.

Here's one kid I have No trouble wishing a place on the national team. He brings qualities that the other defensive midfielders (Bradley and Clark) lack. Here's hoping he continues to grow in health, no injuries, knock on wood.
