RECAP: RENNES 2 - 1 LE MANS
Arch Bell - Monday, November 23, 2009
Carlos Bocanegra came off the bench and helped fuel Rennes to a home victory over Le Mans on Saturday at Route de Lorient in Rennes.

Bocanegra started on the bench for head coach Frédéric Antonetti but was inserted into the match in the 20th minute in place of Kader Mangane who was forced to leave due to an injury.

The Senegalese defender left the field after scoring the first goal of the match in the eighth minute. A corner kick was sent into the area and a lapse in the Le Mans defense left Mangane with an easy tap in at the back post.

The US national team captain picked up a yellow card 19 minutes after entering the match when he was booked for a tackle Le Mans midfielder Mathieu Dossevi.

The visitors notched the equalizing goal shortly after halftime on a 53rd minute counterattack. Norwegian forward Thorstein Helstad kickstarted the play with a pass to Anthony Le Tallec who then found Belgian forward Roland Lamah who hit paydirt with Le Mans' first goal in over 300 minutes.

10 minutes from time, the hosts snagged the winning goal when Ismaël Bangoura's pass to Asamoah Gyan in the area gave the forward from Ghana plenty of time and space to fire home the gamewinner.

The victory lifts Les Rouges et Noirs to 10th place in the Ligue 1 standings with 19 points. Bocanegra and company hit the road next weekend to square off against third place and Champions League participant Lyon.
