PREVIEW: WEEKEND IRISH ACTION
Gareth Maher - Friday, November 6, 2009
Ryan Guy and St. Patrick's Athletic attempt to secure Premier Division survival when they take on Shamrock Rovers, while Chris Konopka will be hoping that Sporting Fingal finish runners-up in the First Division.

St. Patrick's Athletic - Shamrock Rovers

The final league game of the season throws up a tough game for The Super Saints as they are struggling to find consistency and have not beaten their city rivals all year.

Pete Mahon's team are on 40 points after 36 games played and currently resting in one of the two relegation play-off positions. They need to win this game and hope that both Sligo Rovers and Galway United lose their respective matches in order to guarantee their survival.

Due to how they have played over the campaign and the current injury list that includes Gary Dempsey, David Partridge, Bobby Ryan, Mark Quigley, and Declan O'Brien, confidence levels in Inchicore are not exactly soaring.

Guy could start up front if O'Brien fails to overcome a bout of flu, but Mahon will want to select him on the right wing after he registered a superb performance against Drogheda United last week.

For Rovers, they are missing Ian Bermingham and Pat Flynn, but otherwise have a full strength squad that includes the league's top scorer Gary Twigg, who was nominated for the PFAI Player of the Year award.

Sporting Fingal - Athlone Town

There is bound to be a good atmosphere at Morton Stadium on Friday as Liam Buckley's squad look to collect their 22nd league win of the season.

The Dublin-based club are in third place and trail Shelbourne by a single point. If they win their game and Shelbourne lose to Kildare County then they will finish behind First Division leaders UCD.

Konopka will hope to be named in the starting line-up after sitting out the win over Mervue United last week and knowing that the FAI Ford Cup final is rapidly approaching.

Athlone have little to play for in this game, so the focus is likely to be on Sporting finishing their league campaign in style.
