GERMAN CUP QUARTERFINAL DRAW
David Smith - Monday, November 2, 2009
The German Cup quarterfinal draw has been made, sending Jermaine Jones and Schalke 04 to visit 3. Liga club VfL Osnabrück in the early-February matchup.

Felix Magath's squad reached the quarterfinals by way of their 3-0 drubbing of Kenny Cooper's 1860 Munich in the Allianz Arena, and will expect to have an easy road to the semifinal round against the lowest-ranked team still remaining in the competition.

While Jones has yet to feature in any competitive games for the Königsblauen this season due to a broken leg suffered in late-July, he is expected to be back in uniform for his team before the end of 2009 and should participate in the remaining rounds.

Osnabrück pulled off the surprise upset of the third round, thoroughly overpowering 1. Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in the Osnatel-Arena by a 3-0 score, but can expect a much tougher task to hold their own against the Bundesliga's current fourth-placed team.

Schalke have lifted the cup four times in their history, most recently in 2002, and will be looking to avoid a second successive quarterfinal by lower league competition after last season's disappointment in Mainz.

The competition's two most successful clubs with a combined 20 titles, Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, avoided a quarterfinal clash, being handed home games against Fürth and Hoffenheim, respectively.

The remaining game in the round gives struggling Cologne a trip to 2. Bundesliga club Augsburg.

The quarterfinal games will be played on February 9 and 10, 2010, following the Bundesliga's winter break.

VfL Osnabrück - FC Schalke 04
