PREVIEW: WEEKEND IRISH ACTION
Gareth Maher - Thursday, October 29, 2009
Chris Konopka will be hoping to keep his place in the Sporting Fingal starting lineup as they take on Mervue United, while Ryan Guy and St. Patrick's Athletic prepare to play Drogheda United.

Drogheda United - St. Patrick's Athletic

Now that they are third from bottom in the Premier Division with two games to go, St. Pat's know that relegation is a real fear for them.

Last week's defeat at home to Derry City showcased the fragility in their defense and things have hardly improved for this game as experienced defender Jason Gavin is considered a major doubt.

Noel Haverty, Gary Dempsey, and Andy Haran are all ruled out, while striker Declan O'Brien could miss the return to his former club.

Guy might be moved up front to partner Mark Quigley as the Dublin club set about taking the three points that would see them reach the 40-point mark.

Drogheda are only missing Jamie Duffy, so Alan Mathews' team will be aiming to build on last week's hard-earned draw against Cork City.

Mervue United - Sporting Fingal

Konopka registered a fine individual display in the FAI Ford Cup semi-final triumph over Bray Wanderers and that could be enough for him to retain his starting spot.

First-choice keeper Darren Quigley is free of suspension again, although manager Liam Buckley may opt to stick with Konopka for the remainder of the season.

The real worry for Buckley is the absences of Stephen Paisley, John Frost, Lorcan Fitzgerald, and Alan Kirby. Sporting need to win if their slim promotion hopes are to stay alive.

Mervue have little else but pride to play for in this game as the Galway-based outfit attempt to collect their seventh league win of the season.
