PREVIEW: MIDWEEK ENGLISH ACTION
Andrew Vorce - Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Brad Guzan and Tim Howard are the only two yanks left in the Carling Cup as Aston Villa and Everton travel to tough opposition in midweek English action.

Sunderland - Aston Villa

Brad Guzan should continue in goal as Aston Villa travels to the far northeast of England as the Carling Cup fourth round heats up.

Aston Villa will be without Curtis Davies with a dislocated shoulder, while Stewart Downing is still recovering from an ankle injury. Emily Heskey is likely to see minutes as the English intertnational looks to pair with either Gabriel Agbonlahor or John Carew.

Sunderland are without Lee Cattermole who is suffering from an MCL knee injury, while John Mensah is out until Halloween with a calf muscle strain. Kanwyne Jones has been nursing an ankle knock, but should be able to play.

Tottenham - Everton

Tim Howard and Everton will expect no favors going into Tuesday's League Cup game in London with a revitalized Tottenham down on their luck.

Jonathan Woodgate is out for the home team with a head injury, while Giovanni Dos Santos is out until Halloween with an ankle injury. Luka Modric is edging his way back to first team play after being sidelined with a broken leg.

Everton's list of casualties are ever growing, tying them for most injured club with Birmingham City. Joining the list are Dimitar Bilyaletdinov and James Vaughan, a thigh muscle strain and knee injury hindering the pair, respectively.

Vaughan is one of six players out due to a knee injury of some sort. Joining him on the sidelines are Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka, Phil Neville, and Steven Pienaar.

Notes:

Mike Grella will look to make an impact off the bench when Leeds travel to Bristol Rovers in League One action.
