A change in leadership at Mexican Primera Division club Indios de Juarez has left Marco Vidal wondering if he will return to the club following this season.
On October 11th, Indios released a statement in which they named José Treviño as the new Head Coach. Treviño replaced Hector Hugo Eugui who was unable to lead the team to a win in 11 games.
The change in leadership, plus looming relegation for the club, has left Vidal unsure of his future in Juarez.
"Well, we will see what goes down at Indios… I just don't know at this point what the future holds for me," Vidal recently told YA.
After having sat the bench for three weeks, the coaching change might just make the future seem a little brighter. In Treviño's debut last week, Vidal got the starting nod and went the full 90 minutes.
The Dallas, Texas native remains optimistic and indicates that a move away from Indios might be appropriate, given his perception of the current politics of Major League Soccer regarding Latino players.
"There has always been interest from other teams…There has always been an interest of going back home since the MLS seems to be given the Hispanic players a break now," continued Vidal.
"I read on the news FC Dallas just signed [Chihuahua, Mexico native] Bryan Levya so that's a really good thing."
Vidal once trained with FC Dallas under then head coach Colin Clark for about four months. The relationship between the two would not develop into a lasting one as Clark moved on from the Lone Star State and eventually became the head coach at Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL.
With Indios also experiencing financial trouble and club administrators tossing around the idea of cuts in player salaries, it is easy to see why Vidal's worries about staying with the club also extend off the field.
"To be honest, I'll play anywhere in the world. It doesn't matter if it's Africa, North America or Asia. As long as I can put food on the table and provide for my wife, I'm good to go," he concluded.
Vidal has appeared in ten out of 12 games so far this year, starting eight, and coming in as a substitute in two. The midfielder has yet to find the back of the net in this Apertura 2009. |
