MILLER LEANING TOWARDS LJUNGSKILE RETURN
Jon Van Wagenen - Monday, October 26, 2009
Unlike fellow Americans Sam Brill who struggled to get playing time and Colin Burns who had a falling out with the club, Ryan Miller is likely to remain with Superettan club Ljungskile for next season.

With his current contract running out November second, Miller has a new contract offer from Ljungskille awaiting his signiture, but will wait to see what other options exist.

"I have some interest from other Superettan clubs and am looking into a few Allsvenskan situations," the 5'11", 165 pound defender recently told YA.

"I believe if I decide to stay in the Superettan, I will sign an extension with Ljungskile because I have really enjoyed it here, but I also feel I have the ability to make a mark in the Allsvenskan, so if that opportunity exists, I will certainly take it. Ultimately I want to push myself to play at the highest level I possibly can."

After a standout career at Notre Dame, Miller had brief stints with several American clubs. Since joining the western Swedish team in July, Miller has finally gotten to prove himself with regular action, starting 14 matches. The defensive pair of Miller and American Etchu Tabe has been a fixture in the second half of the season.

Miller made a first impression in Scandinavia with a January tryout with Allsvenskan club Halmsted. After building on his reputation this season, he is not limited to the Swedish leagues.

"There's actually few options for right backs in the Allsvenskan but there's three or four clubs that will probably need someone like Ryan for 2011," noted Miller's agent, Eddie Rock. "That said, Denmark is a possibility for 2010."

The Danish season follows a similar calendar to continental Europe and is about one third complete. In Sweden, Ljungskile finish their season on Saturday.

As the season draws to a close, Miller reflected very positively on his Swedish experience.

"As I thought, the style of play is very fitting for me and it helps that my wide right midfielder, Martin Smedberg, is a very good player and we have combined for what most people have said to be the best wing in the league. I have also really enjoyed the entire team, players, coaches and fans," he concluded.

Ljungskile completed their Superettan season this past weekend with a 3-0 win over Ängelholms FF to finish ninth in the league standings.
