RECAP: VPS 0 - 0 IFK MAREHAMN
Bri-Mathias Hodge - Sunday, October 18, 2009
Lawrence Smith started up top for VPS and went the full 90 minutes as the team from Vaasa wrapped up the season with a boring tie against their visitors from Åland on Saturday afternoon.

The teams were level throughout the game, both finishing with four shots on goal, though the home team had a slight edge in corners: 7 to 5.

The hosts had a late chance to win it but Jyrki Saranpaa shot wide in the 90th minute, missing a chance to score against the team his father coaches.

Smith, the former Charleston Battery striker, finished the season with three goals and one assist in 22 contests.

Mariehamn ended the season in fourth place in the Veikkausliiga standings, while VPS wrapped up 8th place with the tie.

He played central defender for this game instead of playing up top. Watching the highlights, he looked pretty comfortable back there.
