RECAP: SPORTING LISBON 0 - 0 BELENENSES
Isaac Heath - Monday, October 5, 2009
Freddy Adu made his second appearance - his first league with his new club Belenenses - in a rather uneventful match with Sporting Lisbon at Jose Alvalade stadium on Sunday.

Sporting seemed poised to take all three points from the start, as the home team boasted the lions' share of the opportunities in the first half, but were frustrated by the stingy defense of Joao Carlos Pereira's team.

After an overall boring first 45 minutes, the second half mirrored the first, with neither team making itself very dangerous.

While the visiting Belenenses seemed content with a tie, Sporting fought quite unconvincingly for the victory much to the dismay of the home supporters.

Just as in his first appearance, Adu subbed on in the 66th minute for Yontcha, as Belenenses hoped the young American would be able to help generate some offense for the visitors down the stretch.

In the end, Adu was unable to create much going forward, but helped his team preserve a coveted point on the road.

Adu and Belenenses currently sit one point clear of relegation and CD Nacional de Madeira, whom they will meet next Monday, October 12.
