Lawrence Smith started and played the full 90 minutes as Vaasa tied Kuopio in a goal-fest on Sunday evening at the Magnum Areena.
The guests got on the board first through Smith's strike partner Antonio Inutile in the 26th minute, but the former KooTeePee man had his strike canceled out just eight minutes later when Miika Turunen returned serve.
KuPS' controversial Nigerian striker Dickson Nwakaeme was joined the battle in the 42nd minute, replacing Segun Ikudehinbu, and wasted no time making his mark, putting the hosts ahead just before halftime off an assist by Pele Koljonen.
Tony Björk leveled the terms once again ten minutes after the proceedings resumed but Koljonen lived up to his namesake once more, playing provider for Ilja Venälänen in the 65th minute and "The Russian" made no mistake putting KuPS in front once more.
Alas the lead was short lived as Tero Koskela notched the sixth goal of the match just four minutes later to give the weary scoreboard operator his final task.
Smith had a couple of chances to be the hero, in the 88th and 90th minutes, but was unable to put his shots on frame and was forced to settle for a single point.
