PREVIEW: KUPS - VPS
Bri-Mathias Hodge - Thursday, October 1, 2009
Lawrence Smith is expected to get the starting nod from coach Petri Vuorinen as VPS head inland to Kuopio to take on 12th place KuPS at the Magnum Areena on Sunday evening.

Smith is tied with a host of others for second on the team's goal scoring pecking order with three strikes.

VPS are currently in 8th place in the Veikkausliiga and safe from spending next season in the Ykkönen but their hosts are not as lucky and could still slip into the second flight.

Defenders Jan Ahlvik and Jyrki Saranpää will be unavailable for the guests due to injury and goalkeeper Henrik Moisander due to a red card last weekend against JJK.

VPS' defense will have to pay special attention to the Nigerian Dickson Nwakaeme who has notched five assists since his controversial August debut in Finland. The striker arrived from Senegal and was put into action before his registration was approved, causing a 3-0 win over RoPS to turn into a 0-3 defeat as punishment.

After a week off for the international break VPS wrap up the season on Saturday the 17th at home against the islanders from Mariehamn.
