RECAP: WEEKEND SWEDISH ACTION
Bri-Mathias Hodge - Monday, September 7, 2009
Colin Burns and Ryan Miller started for Ljungskile as they fell to the league leaders in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon.

Mjällby AIF 2 - 1 Ljungskile SK

Colin Burns got the start in goal and Ryan Miller at left defender as Ljungskile fellon Saturday afternoon at Strandvallen in the dying moments.

Etchu Tabe was suprisingly left out of the starting eleven after scoring Ljungskile's only goal last weekend.

After Ljungskile wasted a couple early chances the hosts got on the board first with Daniel Nilsson converting a Daniel Ivanovski cross five minutes before the break.

The guests came out of the break hungry for the equalizer and found it in the 65th minute when Johan Patriksson nutmegged Ivanovski and played the ball through to Daniel Åkervall who easily tapped it in to draw the score level.

But there would be no happy ending for Ljungskile as David Löfquist slipped a shot past an on onrushing Burns in the third minute of second half stoppage time to give Mjällby the victory.

Sam Brill did not make the gameday lineup for Ljungskile and has been practicing with the second team.

Ljungskile remain 14th in the 16 team Superettan with the loss, one point deep in the relegation playoff zone, but having already played on more game than several direct competitors. Mjällby remain top of the Superettan with the win, now 14 points clear of their nearest opposition.

Notes:

The Allsvenskan was on an international break this weekend, so Alejandro Bedoya and Örebro had time to rest up for next weekend's showdown with Hammarby.
