Helmond and BV Veendam met on Friday evening in the Dutch Jupiler League action and battled to a scoreless draw.
American Charles Kazlauskas was handed another starting role in midfielder for Jürgen Streppel's team and went the distance once again.
The home team nearly scored on a 30-yard freekick midway through the first half, and then the subsequent corner was saved off the line by Helmond goalkeeper Robert van Westerop.
Official Serdar Gozubuyuk certainly put his stamp on the match, handing out four yellow cards - two on each side of half-time and two for each team as both teams battled hard through the full ninty minutes.
Streppel replaced Mark Veldmate in the 65th minute looking to add something to a stagnant attack by bringing in striker Youssef Chida.
The Moroccan nearly broke the scoreless deadlock when he was played behind the defense but Veendam 'keeper Peter Van der Vlag parried the ball just past his far post.
The club will travel to HFC Haarlem next Friday to face a club that is struggling near the bottom of the table. |
