JONES BACK ON THE FIELD FOR SCHALKE
David Smith - Wednesday, September 2, 2009
Following a short false start, Schalke's Jermaine Jones has begun training with the first team, however his progress remains under the watchful eye of the team's medical staff.

"Right now there is the break due to internationals and currently [Jermaine] is now in training, but we still can't say if he'll be available for our next Bundesliga game," Schalke press officer Thomas Spiegel confirmed.

"He was back in training last week but had to withdraw after one day because he felt a little reaction in his leg," Spiegel explained.

"However, after pausing for one day he was able to return to training with the full team."

After a rough patch which has seen the Königsblauen take only a single point from their last two games while failing to find the scoreboard, the team is eager to see their star midfielder back on the field.

The international break does afford Schalke's staff to keep an eye on Jones' condition as he returns to the fold, as they hope to prevent any of the minor pangs which often accompany the return from a more serious injury.

"It should be usual training [for the team], but if the training staff sees that Jermaine has to do some special exercises in one department or another they will do so."

Schalke will hope to break their two-game winless streak when they get back to action after the international break on September 13 against last-place Cologne.

All I can say is, get him in our midfield ASAP. The stronger we can be, the better.

I will be pleasantly surprised if we see him playing for the USA by October's qualifying round.

I sure hope he is in good form for the October qualifiers. I'd love to see him and Bradley lined up together in the midfield for what is likely to be a HUGE qualifier against Costa Rica in DC. I just bought my tickets to that game and cannot wait for it to get here. Go USA!
