PREVIEW: VPS - TPS
Arch Bell - Friday, August 14, 2009
Lawrence Smith and VPS return to Veikkausliiga action this weekend when they host league co-leader TPS on Sunday at Hietalahti Stadium in Vaasa.

Smith, who is normally a starter up front for head coach Petri Vuorinen, began last week's victory over Jaro from the bench before coming on as a substitute at halftime.

It is unclear if Vuorinen will deploy the same strategy on Sunday, however it should be expected for the South Carolina native to see some significant minutes.

VPS have strung together two wins in a row for the first time since the beginning of the summer which has catapulted the squad back into the race for the league title.

Smith and company are just four points away from third place and eight points out of the league lead so another three points for the hosts could rekindle title hopes for Vuorinen's squad.

TPS are riding an unbeaten streak of 12 matches coming into this weekend's encounter and were very impressive in last weekend's throttling of FC Inter.

TPS head coach Pasi Rautiainen will have a full squad with the exception of Simo Valakari who is injured while Vuorinen will miss defender Jyrki Saranpää and midfielder Toni Hahto due to injuries.
