RECAP: FC HONKA 3 - 0 VPS
Arch Bell - Sunday, July 26, 2009
It was a long day at the office for VPS who got drilled by FC Honka on Sunday afternoon at Tapiolan Urheilupuisto in Espoo.

Forward Lawrence Smith started up front for head coach Petri Vuorinen and went the full 90 minutes in the losing effort.

The hosts clearly dictated the first half and got themselves on the scoreboard in the 28th minute when Hermanni Vuorinen took a pass from Rasmus Schüller and beat VPS goalkeeper Henri Sillanpää with a shot.

Honka doubled the margin in the 41st minute when forward Aleksandr Kokko fed a perfect ball into Jaakko Lepolan who fired the ball from 16 meters out to beat Sillanpää.

Coming out of the halftime break, VPS was the aggressor and nearly cut the lead in half in the 51st minute with a shot from Smith but the South Carolina native's effort was saved by Honka goalkeeper Tuomas Peltonen.

The home team put the match away in the 84th minute when forward Jami Puustinen made the most of midfielder Jussi Vasara's pass and slipped a shot past Sillanpää for the game's third and final goal.

The loss drops VPS back down to 10th place with 20 points as Smith and crew return home next weekend to host Lahti.
