Sal Zizzo is undergoing a physical at Fortuna Düsseldorf and is expected to sign a one-year loan deal with the 2nd Bundesliga club within the day.
"Sal is now in Düsseldorf for his medical check and he should be signing a deal with the club this evening," Hannover 96 press officer Andreas Kuhnt told YA.
"There are still some more things to be worked out with Fortuna but he should be with the club from tomorrow onward."
Having found troubles cementing a spot on the first team after his arrival in the club in July 2007, the midfielder had pursued a short-term loan deal with Hansa Rostock in January which ultimately fell apart upon the dismissal of Hannover's former sporting director Christian Hochstätter, and was finally given the green light to pursue a new surrounding in the summer.
Despite his seemingly unwanted status with the first team throughout the bulk of last season, Hannover has not closed the door on his future with the club should his year with recently-promoted Fortuna prove beneficial.
"He will be loaned for one year to Fortuna then maybe come back to Hannover," Kuhnt confirmed.
The Rhine-based club also confirmed negotiations with the former UCLA Bruin, but warned that they were still awaiting his final decision about the move.
"He is an interesting player for us and he is considering whether to sign with us," Fortuna press officer Tom Koster explained, adding "but it's not yet concrete."
After finishing as runners-up in the 3. Liga in 2008-09, Fortuna are set to begin their first season back in Germany's second-tier since the '98-99 season, with their opening-day opponent in early-August to be fellow promotee SC Paderborn 07. |

Well this sounds like the best thing for him... it's interesting to see just how many of our players have had experience playing in the Bundesliga 2 over the years, it's a very strong league in a country with a higher standard of living than many of the others in Europe. If and when we eventually beat Germany in a World Cup match, I hope the players remember to acknowledge their debt to the Germans... the work permit situation always has seemed to be more reasonable there than in England.
