Altidore may miss a month

On-loan Villarreal striker Josmer Altidore has undergone surgery to remove a hindering ingrown toenail and will miss up to four weeks of action.

"Altidore has been affected by the toe problem for some time now," Xerez CD press officer Santi Garcia confirmed to YA. "We decided to operate to repair this problem."

"The procedure will be done tonight. There is no definite timetable of a return but it could be about a month."

Altidore, who despite the foot issue, scored four goals in last month's World Cup qualifiers has not made an appearance for the front-runners in the Segunda Division.

Meanwhile, Xerez has also confirmed that they have made overtures to the American's representatives about extending the loan for next season.

"We have had a meeting with Altidore and his agent about next year," Garcia offered. "At this time no decision has been made, but we have made it known that we'd like him here next season."

Xerez currently lead the Segunda Division by a single point over Tenerife with a four point gap between Hercules CF who occupy fourth - the first of the non-promoting place.

Without Altidore, Xerez will face relegation bound Deportivo Alaves this weekend.
