Struggling to find playing time and even a spot on the bench at Lorient, Andrew Jacobson looks set to move on in the January transfer window.
The young Californian rejoined Lorient FC in October after a frustrating ankle injury kept him out for nearly a year, and now has been unable to find a regular place in the lineup.
"I feel good. Everything is good," the Palo Alto native told YA. "I'm not playing though. I'm just not playing, so I need to make a move."
Already adjusted to life in France after a year with his club, Jacobson has a desire to explore options within the country.
"There is some interest from a few teams in Ligue 1 and in the second division. In Ligue 2, my agent has been in touch with Brest and Ajaccio. I can't say which teams from Ligue 1 I have spoken with right now, but one is in the east."
Yesterday, Andrew visited Esbjerg FB, a club from Denmark currently in eighth place and struggling to avoid relegation. "I'm there right now. They are very interested. I can't talk about too many details, but the visit is going well."
The Danish club hired Ove Pederson, a former coach of Benny Feilhaber and Jerry White at Aarhus, on January 1 this year. A new man at the helm who is familiar and receptive to American talent could provide an interesting opportunity for Jacobson after a trying year with Lorient.
The UCLA Berkley product has also not ruled out a move to the MLS but would like to see if he can continue his career abroad.
"The US is definitely an option. I am just letting it all play out. That's the thing; during January there are always rumors. We will just have to wait and see."
With interest from a number of clubs both in and outside of France, the American central midfielder is just eager to play.
"I'm in a tough spot. I'm 23 and not getting any younger. The next two years are huge for me. I need to play and gain experience. I have to weigh the amount I'll play with the quality of the team and with the quality of life with each opportunity. It's stressful."
Lorient, currently in ninth place, will host struggling Valenciennes this weekend at Stade du Moustoir. |
