Los Angeles Galaxy attacker Landon Donovan is ready for a third attempt at German soccer, agreeing to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Donovan, 26, will join former Galaxy consultant Jürgen Klinsmann in Bavaria in January on loan until March when the German squad will hope to have the option to purchase the American from MLS.
"He was very good in training," Klinsmann told YA in Germany. "His speed adds components that we didn't have yet."
"I want to have four forwards for the start of the second half of the season, to give us more alternatives in case we have injuries."
Donovan, whose ill-fated stint with Bayer Leverkusen in 2005 led to his joining Los Angeles, is thought of as a possible replacement for unhappy Germany international Lukas Podolski who has stated his desire to leave in January.
"Lukas has to get used to this situation," Klinsmann offered.
Donovan, the United States' all-time leader in goals scored, joins teammate David Beckham in Europe during the winter with the England international linking up with AC Milan. |
