CALIFF PLEASED WITH TRANSITION
Chad Winger - Tuesday, November 4, 2008
USMNT defender Danny Califf, 12 games into the season with his new team FC Midtjylland, currently sits five points behind Odense BK as the American is attempting babck-to-back Danish Superligaen titles.

Califf, who was an integral part of last season's Aalborg BK who ran away with the title, made the switch to Herning club in the summer after two-and-a-half years at Energi Nord Arena.

"It came down to the length of the deal," Califf told YA. "[Also,] The chance to stay in a place where I was going to be an integral part of a team that is really pushing to win the Danish League."

"After winning last year it is something I really want again."

Midtjylland have started the campaign modestly, but still are well within view of the leaders - which does not include former club Aalborg who languish near the relegatiion zone.

"I have been pleased with how I have fit in to the team here and with my play so far," said the former LA Galaxy star. "We aren't exactly where we want to be but we are in the mix and within striking distance of the top."

"Consistency is the key along with luck. I know we have the talent, but we'll see who gets the bounces."

The change in scenery has also meant a change in philosophy and tactics, one which the 28-year old has taken in stride.

"At AaB we were very tactical in our approach to the matches," Califf says. "At FCM we are much more free flowing with an attacking mentality."

"As a defender it takes a bit of getting used to but I think I am pretty well adjusted now."

Califf missed out on Midtjylland's 2-0 loss to Jeremiah White and AGF Aarhus in the team's last match with a slight injury and will hope to be back in the lineup this weekend when they host Vejle BK.
