READING: CONVEY STILL IN OUR PLANS
Monday, November 3, 2008
Reading FC's American midfielder Bobby Convey has not played for the Royals since a September 23rd League Cup match with Stoke City, but the team says that he is still part of their plans.

"Bobby is now fit, available again and pushing for a recall to the first team," Reading's Head of Communications Andy West told YA. ""He has been unfortunate over the last couple of years with injuries."

"He was a very important player for Reading when we won the Championship [in the 2005/06 season]."

Convey who played nearly every moment of that year's record shattering Royals season, failed to impress in the country's top division, but West says the midfielder was snakebitten.

"He was very unlucky not to be able to make a real impact in the Premiership because of a long term injury."

In his 97 appearances for the Royals, Convey has scored seven league goals - all in the Championship. When the Madejski squad was last in the division these seven strikes played a large part in keeping the American in the lineup, a 180 degree turn from the situation this time around.

"This season is a role reversal for Bobby from when we were last in the Championship," West commented. "Then he was in the starting position and [Stephen] Hunt was fighting for his place in the team, where now it is the other way around.

"He knows he has to work hard. Currently we have Hunt playing very well in midfield, but Bobby has worked really hard to get back to full fitness."

"He has shown that he can be a major force in the team and we are sure he will be important to our cause throughout the season."

Convey was not in action when Reading battered Bristol City on the road on Saturday. The Americans next chance comes against Derby County next weekend.
