LEWIS LEAVES DERBY FOR MLS

Lewis has left Derby for Los Angeles

American veteran midfielder Eddie Lewis will officially end his career abroad, returning to MLS to join the star-studded LA Galaxy.

Joe Schoenbauer, Lewis' agent at ProActive, confirmed the move to YA on Wednesday evening.

"Eddie Lewis has signed with MLS and will join the LA Galaxy," Schoenbauer told YA. "Eddie's deal runs through 2011."

Lewis is currently with the US national team in Guatemala, but will return with new teammate Landon Donovan to Los Angeles after the match.

The veteran left footed cross specialist will slot into the midfield on the opposite side of David Beckham, giving the already high powered Galaxy offense yet another attacking weapon.

The 34-year old Lewis previously played for the now forgotten San Jose Clash of MLS before moving to the Premier League as the original Fulham Yank in 2001. But Lewis saw the field only once in the Premiership, before moving on to the Championship team Preston North End, where he spent three seasons and scored sixteen goals across all competitions.

Lewis moved on to storied Leeds United, and was part of the infamous squad that was demoted to League One in 2007.

The midfielder escaped League One, and played 24 games in the Premiership for Derby County last year, helping set another dubious mark as Derby won only one match and set an all-time low record for points in England's top flight.

Lewis has 80 caps for the national team, and ten goals, including the game winner in the away leg of the series against Barbados in June.
