BOCANEGRA SIGNS WITH RENNES
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
American center back Carlos Bocanegra has joined French Ligue 1 team Rennes on a three year contract.

Bocanegra had been searching for a club after Fulham decided not to offer the Californian a new contract for the upcoming campaign.

"Rennes had been showing a strong interest in Carlos and on Thursday discussions were held at length," representative Joe Schoenbauer told YA. "It was at this time that everything fell into place."

Rennes' persistent pursuit of Bocanegra is what ultimately led to the French club acquiring the 29 year-old's services.

"In the end, Rennes showed a strong desire to bring Carlos into the team," Schoenbauer commented. "Carlos is excited at the prospect of playing and learning under Guy Lacombe in a team that has great potential."

Rennes finished in sixth place in 2007-08 and are in the Intertoto Cup final round with the winner moving on to the UEFA Cup.

Rennes open their Ligue 1 campaign on August 9 when they host perennial French powerhouse Marseille.
