United States' all-time leading goalscorer Landon Donovan will miss Wednesday's match against Spain in Santander but has yet to be ruled out against Argentina on Sunday.
"As with any competitive athlete, Landon is frustrated that he is missing some important matches," agent Rich Motzkin commented to YA on Tuesday.
"While Landon would love to play for both the US National Team and the Galaxy, he is smart enough to understand that he needs to give the injury the appropriate amount of time to heal."
Donovan, who also missed last month's embarrassing loss to England at Wembley Stadium, was initially injured in MLS play.
"Landon tweaked his groin in the Kansas City match a couple of weeks ago," Motzkin recalled. "As to not risk further injury and make what would be a short-term injury a long-term one, [this period of time off was nescessary.]"
Donovan currently leads Major League Soccer with nine goals and six assists in nine appearances for Ruud Gullit's team. |
