23 TICKETS TO SOUTH AFRICA
Sunday, February 17, 2008
Our most popular feature is back, and these 23 Tickets sees the most movement of any of the previous editions.

Booted off the plane are Marcus Hahnemann and his ghastly goals against average, while Josh Wolff and Jonathan Bornstein join the Reading keeper on the outside looking in.

Maurice Edu and Brad Guzan grab themselves a seat, while Jeremiah White sneaks past Taylor Twellman to snatch the last ticket.

Again, for this feature, we at YA are prognosticating who we think that the US head coach will call up to his final roster, not who we think should go.

As always, feel free to drop us a line if you agree, disagree or somewhere in between.

PACK YOUR BAGS, BOYS
Michael Bradley - M, Borussia Mönchengladbach (Germany)
Nothing silences calls of nepotism like 19 goals between club and country in less than a year. (CW) Maybe we should try him at forward... (BMH)
Steve Cherundolo - D, Hannover 96 (Germany)
His stock actually went up after the past few friendlies. (GM) None of his rivals are knocking him out of the right back spot. (KB)
Clint Dempsey - M/F, Fulham (England)
Striker or midfielder, what do YOU say, Deuce? (RF) Hopefully he'll keep on growing (away from the sinking Craven Cottage ship). (JM)
Tim Howard - GK, Everton (England)
Only a bad case of the plague would keep him out of the team. (KB)

NEARLY A LOCK
Carlos Bocanegra - D, Saint-Etienne (France)
The best we have at his position. (MA) Likely to captain the team. (GM)
Oguchi Onyewu - D, AC Milan (Italy)
Gooch makes me nervous each time he plays. (CW) Backline necessity, but please, no more bookings. (JM)
Landon Donovan - M/F, Los Angeles Galaxy (USA)
Will he ever score from open play again? No more right midfield! (BMH)
DaMarcus Beasley - M/F, Out of contract
If it wasn't for the injury, he'd be packing his bags too. (MA)

FAIRLY SAFE BET
Freddy Adu - M/F, Benfica (Portugal)
Would it kill Camacho to give him one start? (BMH) Could surpass the 20-somethings' 2002 coming-out party. (JM)
Brad Guzan - GK, Aston Villa (England)
Celtic and Aston Villa bids may have helped his chances. (GM) At the moment, he deserves to be Howard's backup. (KB)
Josmer Altidore - F, Villarreal (Spain)
Good match against Mexico, but let's see what he will do at Real...err, I mean Red Bulls this season. (KB)
Jay DeMerit - D, Watford (England)
Does Watford making it back to the EPL help his cause? (RF) Will have enough to time, post-injury, to force his inclusion. (JM)
Kasey Keller - GK, Seattle Sounders FC (USA)
I don't remember Kasey retiring from the national team. (CW) Can you think of a better third keeper to have? (BMH)
Bobby Convey - M, San Jose Earthquakes (USA)
Isn't he too young to fade away? (MA) Premiership Bobby needs to go find Championship Bobby... (CW)

IN A BATTLE
Eddie Johnson - F, Fulham (England)
Maybe Brian McBride can him straighten him out. (KB) Has to prove that he's worth the $6.4 million. (GM)
Benny Feilhaber - M, AGF Aarhus (Denmark)
Not playing for the worst team in the history of the Premiership has made his stock plummet. (GM) Time to press the career panic-button. (JM)
Heath Pearce - D/M, FC Dallas 96 (USA)
Not only does he have work to do, he's got to find a new club. (KB) Seriously, Bob, what gives? (CW)
Jonathan Spector - D, West Ham United (England)
Can play anywhere. (JM) Lack of depth at left back may see him put a stranglehold on a spot. (GM)
Maurice Edu - M/F, Rangers (Scotland)
He will shine in the Olympics. (RF) Central midfield is starting to look crowded. Mo needs to do something to really stand out. (BMH)

WORK TO DO
Frank Simek - D, Carlisle United (England)
Once recovered, he'll push to be in a battle. (RF) By this time next year, he'll be halfway through a season in the Premiership. (CW)
Ricardo Clark - M, Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)
Just another good addition to an already packed midfield. (KB) Good luck breaking into it, though... (MA)
Jeremiah White - M/F, AGF Aarhus (Denmark)
Speed merchant with a fierce shot. (MA) Can the little guy make his mark on the national stage? (RF)
- F, ()
No one is talking about him, but he's dominating in the 2. Bundesliga this season - and Mainz will get promoted. (CW)
MOVING DOWN

Josh Wolff - After starting the season on fire, Josh has had a miserable season in Munich. (CW)

Danny Szetela - The move to Racing de Santander only looks weirder after being loaned to Brescia. (MA)

Jonathan Bornstein - Maybe Bradley has finally come to his senses. (RF) Hopefully he learns to defend. (BMH)

Marcus Hahnemann - From a near lock to not a single vote? Ouch. (CW)

OTHER BUBBLE BATTLERS

Adin Brown, Bobby Boswell, Jose Burciaga Jr., Danny Califf, Brian Ching, Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, Brad Davis, Cory Gibbs, Sacha Kljestan, Eddie Lewis, Dax McCarty, Drew Moor, Pat Noonan, Michael Parkhurst, Matt Pickens, Eddie Robinson, Steve Purdy, Chris Seitz, Taylor Twellman, Quentin Westberg, Marvell Wynne, Sal Zizzo

note: note: Yanks Abroad's Michael Adubato, Kenya Brown, Rich Fidler, Bri-Mathias Hodge, John Mantia, George Murphy, and Chad Winger compiled this feature.
