GRENIER CONSIDERING AMERICAN RETURN
Michael Adubato - Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Grenier battling Nando

After six and a half years Josh Grenier is looking at the option of returning to the USA at the end of the season when his contract with Koblenz expires.

"I've been playing with the idea of maybe moving back home," the Clayton State alumni told YA. "Every time I go home for the holidays its becoming harder and harder for me to leave."

A hard-nose, no-nonsense central defender, Grenier has been with TuS Koblenz since 2003. The American, with over 100 appearances for the Black and Blue, was instrumental in the team's rise from Oberliga meddlers to the middle of the 2. Bundesliga standings.

"My contract is up at the end of this season," Grenier reminds. "I can look around now and see what other options I have, instead of being locked in another year deal where I might not play so often."

"I'm also keeping an ear open for things here in Germany, especially with the new 3. Bundesliga."

If the 28-year old leaves German soccer behind, it will be without any regrets, perhaps welcoming the change in scenery.

"I've taken the European step that many dream about. I've played a few Bundesliga games in World Cup stadiums in front of 52,000 people."

"MLS would be another excellent step in my career, Grenier insisted. "If the terms and locations work out, why not give that a try too?"

Grenier and Koblenz return from the German winter break on February 3rd when they host Neven Subotic and Mainz 05.
