PERKINS CLOSE TO TRANSFER DEAL Rich Fidler - Monday, December 17, 2007
DC United goalkeeper Troy Perkins is on the verge of moving abroad following negotiations with Norwegian club Vålerenga IF.
"There is an agreement in principle," agent Patrick McCabe told YA. "Troy will be traveling to Norway for a physical this week."
"A few things need to be finalized, but he should be a Vålerenga player very soon."
The former University of South Florida and University of Evansville goalkeeper was signed to a developmental contract by United following the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. Steadily working his way in to the starting lineup, Perkins and was named the 2006 MLS Goalkeeper of the year.
Perkins was resigned to a longer deal following the 2005 season, one which will see MLS capitalize on.
"DC United will receive a transfer fee as Troy still has two years left on his contract," McCabe confirmed. "I think it will be a winning situation for everyone involved."
Perkin's soon-to-be new club finished the 2007 Eliteserien season in seventh place. The Bohemians have also added Norwegian midfielders Martin Andresen and Lars Iver Strand from Brann and Tromsø respectively in the offseason.
