Rangers suffered their third loss of the season after falling to Dundee United in northeast Scotland thanks to strikes on either side of the half by Lee Wilkie and Barry Robson.
DaMarcus Beasley started for Rangers and it was the American who won the penalty that Daniel Cousin converted between the host's strikes.
The game's first goal came when Willo Flood's free kick from the left side of the box was swept in to the 6 yard area and Wilkie knocked it past Allan McGregor for the lead at the 28 minute mark. All Rangers had to show for a dismal first half was a Beasley shot from distance that drifted wide of the target and a close range Lee McCulloch blast that was blocked by Darren Dods.
The visitors equalized six minutes into the second half however, after Beasley was brought down in the box by Christian Kalvenes. Rangers' Gabon international placed the ball on the spot and made no mistake as he rippled the net.
Three minutes later another penalty was awarded but this time at the other end of the field. Carlos Cuellar brought Jordan Robertson to the ground inside the box and Robson did the honors to seal the United victory.
Dundee now join the Gers level on points in second place behind Celtic who open the gap to three points after their convincing win over Motherwell.
Next up for Rangers is a trip to Motherwell for a mid-week Cup clash before taking on Inverness at Ibrox over the weekend. |
