Brad Friedel and Blackburn remain hot with a win in London while Frank Simek returned to action and helped lift Sheffield Wednesday out of the drop zone.
Derby County 0 - 2 Everton
Not even the added benefit of playing on home turf could summon a victory for the Rams, as they slumped back to the bottom of the standings after suffering a defeat to Everton on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta was first to score for Everton in the 26th minute after receiving a pass from Phil Jagielka and shooting into the right corner of the net, before Yakubu sealed the victory in the 63rd minute hitting home with a near point-blank shot.
While Benny Feilhaber was again not named to the roster for the Rams, Eddie Lewis did play nearly 60 minutes in the loss.
Tim Howard played a full game between the posts for the Toffees and collected his second shutout of the season.
Everton will see midweek action against Luton Town in the League Cup before visiting Birmingham City on Saturday. Derby travel to Villa Park the same day.
Portsmouth 0 - 0 West Ham United
Despite a late surprise appearance of Pompey's Nigerian hit man Kanu, it was West Ham keeper Robert Green that saved the day by denying a last minute penalty.
American Jonathan Spector finally saw some action for the Hammers as a 78th minute substitute for Nolberto Solano.
Earlier Solano had missed several opportunities to score, including a 66th minute shot that was headed wide.
Portsmouth was awarded a penalty in the 90th minute after Danny Gabbidon was judged to have handled the ball. Green instinctively went the correct way and denied Zimbabwe international Benjani Mwaruwari the game-winner.
The Hammers remain 11th in the standings, and will host Bolton Wanderers next Sunday.
Reading 2 - 1 Newcastle United
After allowing 22 goals in 10 matches, Marcus Hahnemann allowed only a Michael Duberry own goal as Reading dropped Newcastle United at Madejski Stadium.
Hahnemann, having played every Premiership game this season again went the distance while Bobby Convey did not get off the Royals bench.
Dave Kitson broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a well placed effort from 20 yards out but Duberry's own goal leveled matters for Toon 23 minutes later.
With the game heading towards a draw, Reading substitute Shane Long came on in the 83rd, and within seconds, was able to put a ball from Ibrahima Sonko high in the Geordies' net.
Reading travel to Craven Cottage to meet Fulham next Saturday.
Sunderland 1 - 1 Fulham
Fulham drew their sixth of the season as a late equalizer from ten-man Sunderland dashed their hopes of victory at the Stadium of Light Saturday.
With the Cottagers first chance, attacker Clint Dempsey nearly scored from a Simon Davies free kick in the third minute, but the American headed directly at Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon with the goal at his disposal.
Dempsey had several other early chances, but it was Davies who scored for Fulham 32nd minute from a 30-yard free kick just before half Dempsey was booked for dissent.
Sunderland had a much improved second half, but their good fortune threatened to end when Greg Halford was sent off in the 67th minute. Instead of succumbing to the Cottagers, Sunderland fought back and was ultimately rewarded with an 86th minute goal from aerial wizard Kenwyne Jones.
Like fellow American Dempsey, Bocanegra was shown yellow in the 88th minute. Injured duo Kasey Keller and Brian McBride were not involved.
Fulham, though in 14th position, are only two points from relegation position. They will face Reading at home next Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 2 Blackburn Rovers
Tottenham Hotspur's misery continued Sunday as the Rovers secured a late injury-time goal to earn their fourth win in a row.
Spurs nearly forged ahead in the 19th minute when Aaron Lennon and Steed Malbranque combined to set Lennon up for a blast, but Brad Friedel was quick off his line and thwarted the effort.
Just after the start of the second half after Lennon was brought down by Stephen Warnock and was immediately awarded a penalty, leaving Ireland international Robbie Keane to send the spot-kick past Friedel and put the hosts on the board.
Benni McCarthy started the Rovers comeback in the 60th minute when he smacked an 18 yard shot off of Michael Dawson to level matters and silence White Hart Lane.
With the game threatening to end in a draw Blackburn's Christopher Samba connected with a pass from Roque Santa Cruz to clinch the game for the guests.
With only one loss this season, Blackburn sit at an impressive fifth as they return home to face Liverpool next Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday 2 - 1 Blackpool
Frank Simek returned to action as his Owls crawled out of the relegation zone for the first time all season with a comeback victory.
Wes Hoolahan put Blackpool ahead in the 37th when he clanged a 16-yard strike in off the post, but Marcus Tudgay headed in a Michael Johnson cross past Blackpool's England cap-tied American keeper Paul Rachubka in the 66th to tie the game.
Five minutes later Wednesday got the game winner from Richard Hinds who right-footed a Jermaine Johnson corner.
Wednesday stay at home from the next game against Plymouth Argyle next Saturday.
Darlington 0 - 0 Chesterfield
Johann Smith and Darlington were held to a scoreless draw by fellow promotion chasers Chesterfield in a dire match at Darlington Arena.
The hosts never truly threatened Chesterfield keeper Barry Roache, and American Johann Smith was substitued after only 59 minutes in favor of Michael Cummins.
Felix Bastians had perhaps the best chance of the match when his 15-yarder beat keeper David Stockdale, but rebounded back off the post.
Darlington return to league action next Saturday when they travel to face sixth place Hereford United.
Milton Keynes Dons 0 - 2 Stockport County
Two goals in the final 15 minutes saw Stockport County end high-flying Milton Keynes Dons eight-match unbeaten streak.
Two minutes after American striker Jemal Johnson entered in the second half, Hatters striker Anthony Elding put the visitors on the board when he latched on to a loose ball in the area finished past Willy Gueret.
Johnson should have brought the match level six minutes later, but somehow drove his shot from 10 feet out directly to the thankful arms of Conrad Logan.
The Dons would rue the miss as deep into injury time, Anthony Pilkington stuck the fork in by slotting home from 12 yards.
Milton Keynes and Johnson will look to start another streak next Sunday when they travel to face Wycombe Wanderers.
