EX-SETON HALL KEEPER JOINS WATFORD
Monday, October 22, 2007
Goalkeeper Ian Joyce has signed with English club Watford FC, joining US international Jay DeMerit on the books of the Championship frontrunners.

The 22-year old American put pen to paper for the Hertfordshire club following a one-week trial.

"He signed for the club Friday," Watford's Helen Dodman confirmed to YA. "It is a non-professional contract because he will not be eligible to play until January."

"The trial went very well, and he is happy that a fellow American Jay is on the squad."

"In January he will be eligible to play, and will have to compete for his spot. [Head coach Andy Boothroyd] is happy to have him on the squad, and he will be training intensively with Watford."

Joyce, who was previously a member of Conference club team Grays Athletic FC without making an appearance, also trialed with Millwall.

The New Jersey native also follows the footsteps of American goalkeeping legend Tony Meola, who played for the Hornets in 1990, although never making a league match.

Joyce played his college soccer at Seton Hall University where he was a teammate of current USMNT midfielder Sacha Kljestan and finished tied for fifth on the school's all-time shutout list.
