Winger Eddie Lewis will finally make his return to the Premiership after Derby County had an undisclosed transfer bid for the American accepted.
Lewis, 33, will be reunited with Billy Davies, who was the former San Jose Clash midfielder's head coach at Preston North End.
"We have agreed to a fee for Eddie Lewis with Derby County," a spokesperson from Don Warters press office told YA. "Eddie desperately wanted to return to the Premier League and we felt that the opportunity would be in the best interests of both parties."
"Eddie has been a great servant to this club, but he felt the chance to play in the Premier League was too good to pass up. Leeds wish him all the best in Derby."
Lewis, who had only a single Premiership appearance in his stint with Fulham at the beginning of the decade, will now finally have his chance for top-flight play. The American was a part of back-to-back Championship playoff final losses; West Ham defeated Preston following the 2004/05 season and Jay DeMerit's Watford condemned Leeds to another second-flight season the next year with a 3-0 win.
In two seasons with Leeds, Lewis scored eight times from 84 matches. Previously, the winger notched 15 goals from 111 contests at Preston.
Lewis becomes the second Californian to join Derby this summer, following Benny Feilhaber who made the switch from Hamburg SV. |
