FC Copenhagen defender Jamil Fearrington will begin a trial with DC United at the start of next week, according to his agent.
"He's flying out of Copenhagen on Saturday, and the trial will start next Monday," Thomas Bendtner told YA.
Fearrington was born in Denmark, but has dual citizenship due to an American father. With designs on breaking into USMNT programs, the youngster is motivated by a move to the nation's capital and the exposure he might gain if he can sign with an MLS club.
"Jamil told me that (being noticed by US coaches) is one of the plans, but it is also a thing about going back to his roots," explained Bendtner.
Fearrington decided to leave the Danish club last November feeling that his time with Copenhagen had come to an end, though the club had always told them that he was in their plans.
"He has opportunities - he wants to try new opportunities," Bendtner added. "He's been at FCK for a long time, and they keep telling him that he will get his chance...but he's 21 and wants to try something new."
DC United is the most successful team thus far in the young history of MLS with four MLS Cups, the last of which came during the 2004/05 season. |
