New England attacker Clint Dempsey has been issued a work permit by the UK Home Office, clearing the way for a move to Fulham that should be sealed by Thursday morning.
After he narrowly missed an automatic stamp through his international participations, the Cottagers were given the green light to complete all dealings for the US star during a Wednesday appeal in London.
"We have been informed that Clint was granted a work permit," Fulham press officer Sarah Brookes told YA.
"We are waiting for everything to be signed and paperwork to be filed with the league before formally announcing anything."
Dempsey - who could earn MLS as much as $4 million in transfer fees - is expected to be presented at Craven Cottage as early as Thursday.
The Texas native will now get the chance to suit up alongside World Cup 2006 teammates Carlos Bocanegra and Brian McBride.
With Fulham still in discussions for Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu, the Yank trio may well become a quartet by the time the transfer window closes on January 31st.
However, the club already know they won't require any second chance hearings for the hulking backline marshal.
"There won't be a work permit issue with Gooch," stated Brookes. "We have held some talks, but it hasn't moved forward yet."
Standard are reportedly pondering a second Fulham bid for Onyewu, as well as proposals from the likes of AC Milan, Lazio and Olympique Marseille. |
