Chivas USA coach Bob Bradley will be named as US Men's National Team boss, as well as 2008 Summer Olympics coach, on Friday morning.
A source close to Bradley confirmed the interim arrangement to YA on Thursday, and US Soccer chief Sunil Gulati has scheduled a Friday morning press conference in Chicago to officially make the appointment.
Bradley, the all-time winningest coach in MLS history, will have the chance to earn the job on a permanent basis.
Even if eventually forced to step aside after another planned federation search, the 2008 Olympic gig is his to keep.
The move comes after erstwhile Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann removed himself from consideration for the post.
The former Stuttgart, Tottenham and Bayern Munich strike star broke off talks with Gulati earlier in the week, apparently unhappy with the level of institutional control offered.
Bradley was named MLS Coach of the Year for a second time in 2006; his first award came following a domestic double in the Chicago Fire's inaugural season.
The 48-year old, who also had a stint in charge of the since-renamed MetroStars, is the father of Heerenveen prodigy and US international Michael Bradley.
The 'Nats have effectively been without a leader - and matches - since Gulati revealed that Bruce Arena would not be retained in July.
Bradley will get his first opportunity to post a win as coach of the US National Team against Denmark on January 20th in Los Angeles.
