Quentin Westberg made his Ligue 1 debut in a relief cause, but allowed the two second half goals that made the difference for home side Valenciennes.
The Yank came on in the 51st minute for starting goaltender Ronan Le Crom, who was done in for the day by a foot injury.
Sébastien Roudet put Les Athéniens ahead on 32 minutes, only to have Gaël Sanz nod Troyes level eight minutes later.
José Saez saw red for Valenciennes seconds out of the interval, but it did not sway the momentum to the visitors.
Five minutes after Westberg entered the contest, Roudet beat the American for his second.
Troyes hopes were hit hard when Eloge Enza Yamissi received his second booking and walking papers moments after the hour mark.
Thomas Dossevi took advantage of slack defending to add the insurance tally with 12 minutes remaining.
The loss drops Troyes two places and into the danger zone.
There was no immediate word on the severity of Le Crom's injury, but Westberg may need to be ready for next weekend's visit from St. Etienne. |
