KAZLAUSKAS SET FOR US TRIAL Chad Winger - Wednesday, May 18, 2005
NEC Nijmegen handyman Charles Kazlauskas is set to begin the quest to resurrect his career via the domestic route, as the 22-year old has tentatively scheduled a visit with MLS club Chicago Fire in the upcoming weeks.
"We invited him to train with us for a week once his contract was completed," Fire GM Peter Wilt commented to YA early Wednesday morning. "We are currently awaiting information from him regarding when he can begin his trial."
In late March, NEC announced they would not be renewing the Milwaukee native's contract which expires at the end of the season.
Kazlauskas, who joined the Dutch mites following his junior year of high school at the age of 17, has struggled to break into the NEC first team since his arrival prior to the 2001 season. In his five years at the club, Kazlauskas has made only 11 top flight appearances, totaling 143 minutes while adding a single assist.
Previously, Kazlauskas led the NEC U18s to the 2002 Dutch national title, and spent part of the 2003/04 campaign in the Gouden Gids Divisie with Fortuna Sittard where he made 14 appearances and notching a solitary goal.
Kazlauskas' NEC career concludes this weekend, as the side heads to the road to face next season's UEFA Cup participant Heerenveen.
