Tim Howard and defending champions Manchester United will face Newcastle United in one FA Cup semifinal, with Rovers Brad Friedel and Jemal Johnson set to tackle Arsenal in the other.
If the two American keepers are to meet in the FA Cup this season, it will have to be in the May final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
The Red Devils made short work of the northerners last November when they took three points away from St James' Park with a 3-1 victory. Alan Shearer and Co. are now on a seven-match winning run, ensuring that the Magpies will not be taken lightly by Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
Ex-U.S. international Friedel and American teammate Johnson, who recently signed a full professional contract with Blackburn, will come up against the defending Premiership champions.
These two sides have also met only once this season, at Highbury, where the Gunners sent Blackburn to a harsh 3-0 defeat.
American Danny Karbassiyoon has returned from a loan spell at Ipswich Town, thus rejoining countryman Frankie Simek with the Arsenal Reserves. Karbassiyoon enjoyed some success in the Carling Cup, but neither has seen any FA Cup action to date.
The semifinal games will also be played at the Millennium Stadium on April 16th and 17th. |
