At the player's request, Ajax have terminated the contract of U.S. star John O'Brien, effective immediately.
The redhead will now leave the only club he has ever known to join nearby rivals ADO Den Haag on a free transfer.
The World Cup 2002 standout will first head back to the States for what the club termed as "alternate physiotherapy" before signing a one-year deal in The Hague.
O'Brien has battled Achilles and hamstring injuries for the better part of two years, and appeared to have been frozen out of the selection by under fire Ajax boss Ronald Koeman.
Last week, the coach spoke of having "no choice" for midfielders with injuries to several players such as Wesley Sneijder - ignoring the fact that the now-fit American's natural place is in the center of the park.
Den Haag currently reside six points above the drop zone, and travel to Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday. |
