LABOR-DAY WEEKEND ROUND-UP IN GERMANY

Even though Germans don't celebrate Labor Day by habit, the international break did provide some respite from the just-underway league season for players in the top three leagues not representing their respective countries in international play.

Sadly, most players were unable to plan a weekend at the lake as a number of friendlies, benefit games and local cup rounds kept most Americans in Germany - including a pair just beginning their tenure with new teams - busy and focused on the game.

JONES RETURNS TO ACTION WITH SCHALKE

With German Bundesliga teams currently ramping up in preseason, Schalke's American midfielder Jermaine Jones has made his long awaited return to competitive action over the weekend.

Jones, 28, has not played since May 2009 when he suffered a fracture in his leg. While he was injured he filed with FIFA for a one-time switch from Germany, whom he represented at the youth level, to the US.

JONES IN AMSTERDAM TO MEET USMNT

While the US National team in Amsterdam welcomed back two familiar faces in Oguchi Onyewu and Steve Cherundolo who have both been working their way back from injuries, a not-so-familiar face has also joined the team as they prepare for Holland.

The USSF announced that Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones, 28, was invited by head coach Bob Bradley to meet the team and staff in Amsterdam. He will be in attendance on Wednesday night to watch his potential future teammates take on the third ranked Dutch. However, it is still very unclear as to when Jones will be able to resume playing.

JONES GOES BACK UNDER THE KNIFE

After experiencing further problems during the rehabilitation of his left leg, Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones will be forced to miss another six weeks following surgery.

Having originally suffered a hairline fracture in his left tibia in as the team began training camp in June, the dual-citizen defensive midfielder had twice briefly resumed full training with the Gelsenkirchen-based team before being ultimately forced out for another three weeks of rehabilitation in mid-September when he felt discomfort arising from the metal plate inserted to stabilize the fracture.
